Slow starters

Something to bear in mind if ordering plants in early spring, the following varieties are slow to come out of winter dormancy sometimes not showing any new growth until as late as May. Astilboides, Kirengoshima, Rodgersia, Darmera,  Veronicastrum,  Thalictrum, Gillenia and some Salvias and epimediums. So if you have these plants growing or on order be patient they are great to plant to follow on from the early flowering ethereal ones that disappear by midsummer such as Erythonium, Dodecatheon and Corydalis.   We are checking everyday in the nursery for signs of growth in these late starters so that they can be sent out as soon as possible.
