The heart shaped leaves of this variety are bronze tinted when young and again in autumn. In spring sprays of frothy deep red flowers are carried on wiry stems. The flowers are richer red and larger than epimedium x rubrum and lack the yellow and white colouring. Grow in part shade in moist well drained soil, it will tolerate dry soil once established. Hardy.
