Also known as Wild Basil or Cushion Calamint a native wild flower becoming rarer in Scotland, it has small purple flowers from fat grey whorls very like Phlomis. The seed heads provide winter interest in the border and the small leaves are slightly aromatic when crushed with a hint of thyme. Subtle blooms from May to September, it likes sun and well drained soil. 
Grows to a height of 60cm and spread 30cm.
