Intersting green sage like textured leaves appear in spring, in summer pale lavender coloured flowers later turning deep pink are produced in clustered whorls on sturdy maroon stems a magnet for bees and butterflies. Leave the seed heads over winter as they provide great architectural interest. These thrive in a sunny spot and tolerate some dryness, growing to a height of 1m and spread of 60cm. Originating from Russia, South West Asia and Europe they are very hardy.
